We are seeking a detail-oriented Legal Biller with 2-3 years of experience, including hands-on exposure to Accounts Payable (AP) appeals, to join our finance team. This role is responsible for managing the billing lifecycle, ensuring accurate invoice processing, and supporting appeals related to payment discrepancies or rejections. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills with a solid understanding of legal billing processes and guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and process client invoices in accordance with firm guidelines and client-specific billing requirements
- Ensure compliance with billing agreements, outside counsel guidelines, and e-billing platform rules (e.g., LEDES formats)
- Manage and track AP appeals related to rejected or reduced invoices
- Investigate billing discrepancies and collaborate with attorneys, clients, and AP teams to resolve issues
- Submit appeals with appropriate documentation and justification within required timelines
- Monitor invoice status, follow up on outstanding payments, and assist with collections efforts as needed
- Maintain accurate billing records and documentation for audit and reporting purposes
- Reconcile billing data and support month-end closing activities
- Generate reports on billing, collections, and appeal outcomes
- Provide support to attorneys and administrative staff on billing-related inquiries
Qualifications
- 2-3 years of legal billing experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment
- Demonstrated experience handling AP appeals / billing dispute resolution
- Familiarity with e-billing systems (e.g., Elite, Aderant, CounselLink, Serengeti, or similar platforms)
- Knowledge of LEDES billing formats and outside counsel guidelines
- Strong understanding of billing workflows, invoice lifecycle, and compliance requirements
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems
